New Poems.

Some newer poems from '05-'07.
I liked writing these and I plan to make more;
you might enjoy reading them too.

-- the meeting --
flakes of snow outside my window
inside, my waking body
heart pumping
warm skin

I've never felt so human

-- breakwater --
the whiteness of sails comes,
an old film in the mind's eye,
untouchable as her body
and unreal as the warmth of a sun.

the energy of broken bonds flows through me,
draining like diuretic,
buildings collapse and floods wash to the ocean,
where new things begin to grow.

the heart like a muscle grows back stronger.
the soul like fresh water
is not hurt by breaking waves.

the seeds that she planted found good soil,
and the forest will stand tall and strong.

-- set adrift --
love, so much is changing in my life,
the currents are cool and strong, too strong to resist...
the dead weights of thought are sinking without me
and I am rising to the surface, flowing with the waves,
smiling and crying to look up at the sky.

my heart speaks to me powerfully now
and I see how it's always been here...
glowing behind the veils of understanding
lost in a translation it never needed.

uncovered now, it burns bright.
the salt lake of sadness,
the ashes of anger,
the fluttering wings of joy...

and beyond it all, the expanses of love,
the unfolding of one soul to another,
the power of surrender,
the root of the One.

stop fighting the waves,
and they'll lead you to shore...

-- growth --
the pouring sun and falling water
deep brown earth and clear blue sky
combine in green that heals the body
and lets the spirit rise.

the elements form into life
subtlety and intricacy growing
creating the mind from matter
and making a mirror for the Self,

and this beautiful music plays
behind all the noise of our lives.

harvesting with grace and eating with reverence,
making bodies that touch, minds that understand, and hearts that love,
is hearing that sweet music
and singing in tune.

-- wintersleep --
the romantic sleeps again
until she comes to him
another name and form
for a lifetime of desire

a flood of warm water
on the rocky shoreline
a song from the cradle
of the finch's nest
and sunlight reflected
from earth to moon and back

he stirs in his sleep
while the general makes directions
for the map that will lead to his queen

but they'll meet along the way
and the landscape of beauty will unfold around them
a golden treasure in their midst

for now he sleeps,
his breathing deeper and stronger,
and his heart
almost
whole

-- the wheel --
between lives we decide
what we want to learn and how
and on the wheel of samsara
we surf or it rolls over

the forces of ugliness
will block us and burden us
but we will become clever and strong
we will see through their illusions

we have our friends
and work that nourishes and creates
we have the infinite variety of life
and love between yin and yang

the story unfolds
and we'll read it and learn

-- notes on the game --
don't tell me pleasure has to be guilty
I've flown kites and had singapore laksa
I've made love in the sun

don't tell me I have to strategize
all it takes is confidence and joy
the upward spiral of our lives

don't tell me there are problems to solve
we're beautiful as we are
& love fills in all the cracks

keep your eye on the sky
the miracle's on its way

-- ascension --
joy breathes fresh air
like a bird above the shore
the sky rises as it cries out,
"I am here, I am alive"

sorrow deepens the soul
until it holds a clear lake
the calm depths of that water
the life beyond birth and death

and joy and sorrow fall away
when we rise up into peace
the dissolve into eternity
the taking back to God

in the meantime, we shift and struggle
we find our precious moments, we lose them
and somewhere within we find our wisdom

and there's nothing much better
than a smile and some fresh air

-- untitled (written for blueworks vol. 3) --
there is nothing to remember
as our bodies blend together.

when bare skin meets a warming palm,
the endless earth outside
is blanketed in cradling sleep.
with a whisper we awaken,
and the flickering light of our desire
ignites a steady flame.
candle wax pours slowly down, liquid,
as my mouth discovers your neck,
a sigh falls through the air
as my body greets your wondering hands.

there has never been a past
as our mouths are drawn to meeting.
the current surges forward
at the moment our lips touch,
pulling our bodies into pleasure
as buttons and barriers are undone.

there is no goal, no plan for a future
as our hips press in together.
there is only this moment,
hearts reaching through our naked bodies
to ease into pleasure and sing in rebirth.

-- untitled (for M.) --
waking,
our hands clasped together
the current between our palms
connecting us while we sleep

as if something inside us
something wiser than we are
is saying "don't let this go"

but earlier, the all-out war within me
and the evidence against us
as compelling as can be

together now,
our warm arms enfold
like the bud of a flower,
to be reborn in the spring
or to rejoin the soil...

and with breath and hands held
we wait for this to grow.
